Knox Presbyterian Church has a rich history of service to Christ and Spokane. It was formed in 1888 by Reverend Howard Stratton with 12 members from First Presbyterian Church as Centenary Presbyterian Church. A fire in 1917 resulted in the church being moved to its current location at Knox and Post and renamed Knox Presbyterian Church after the reformer John Knox. Knox/Centenary Church has contributed to the community by formation of Emmanuel Presbyterian church, the establishment of the offical Father's day (1910), the active lobbying for Whitworth College relocation to Spokane, the founding of the Union Gospel Mission, helping to find the site of Camp Spalding (Davis Lake), involvement in Healing the Children, support of Christ's Clinic, and the sending out of many youth over the years for Christian service in missions and ministry.
